Lady Gaga AMA 2009: Amazing Act by Lady Gaga at 2009 AMAs Despite Losing Breakthrough Artist Award do a stunning performance of her new hit "Bad Romance" of which the music video has become an international hit.
The most amazing thing about the Lady Gaga AMA performance was of course the artist's costumes. The backup singers were wearing something that could only be described as "indescribable" and Lady Gaga faced hermaphrodite rumors head-on by wearing a fake you-know-what in front of her lower area. I love it when stars play to the rumors and don't get offended by Hollywood trash talk!
The most disappointing thing about Lady Gaga and the AMAs is that she lost the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist of the Year to a group called Gloriana. Now I have never heard of Gloriana before but I guess that she's a "breakthrough" star.
According to Utica OD.com Gloriana is a Nashville-based band. They won the "On Your Side" award from Nationwide at the 2009 CMT Awards. Obviously we will be seeing more of this group.
I think we will be seeing more of Lady Gaga. She's been compared to Michael Jackson in that she's a phenomenal choreographer and has a very creative feel in her music videos. In fact the music video for "Bad Romance" features a variety of scenes including one where Lady Gaga and her backup dancers are in strange white costumes and dancing around pod-like coffins. The scene has been compared to that of Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
Lady Gaga's AMA performance started out when the singer came out dressed in a flesh-colored body suit. She started singing "Bad Romance" and then transitioned in to "Speechless."
"Speechless" was written for her dad.

TUCSON Ariz. -- Arizona coach Mike Stoops called Oregon athletic director Mike Bellotti to express concern for the health of a Ducks cheerleader who was hit in the head by a water bottle thrown from the grandstand on Saturday night.
Katelynn Johnson suffered a concussion as the Ducks celebrated a 44-41 double-overtime victory in Arizona Stadium. She was carted off the field and taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.
An Oregon spokesman said Johnson returned to Eugene on Sunday.
Speaking at his weekly campus news conference on Monday Stoops called the incident "disturbing."

Video: Global warming emails reveal a smoking gun but does it fire blanks?

The climate change skeptics believe that they have finally found their proof that global warming is all a myth propped up by scientists and various organizations. The "smoking gun" are 61MB's of emails that were hacked from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit. The emails contain various statements which seem to suggest the purposeful manipulation of data by scientists to conceal cooling trends. In addition some emails seem to suggest that scientists worked to keep the work of skeptics from being published or recognized. Copies of many of the emails can be read here. Some of the highlights include the following quotes:
"I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline."
I think we have to stop considering Climate Research as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to or cite papers in this journal. We would also need to consider what we tell or request of our more reasonable colleagues who currently sit on the editorial board…What do others think?"
For sure the quotes are damning but needless to say the climate change consensus has not yet waved the white flag of surrender. One of the scientists involved in the email said that the "trick" involved with date simply involved a way of solving a data problem not an intent to deceive. Anyone who hangs out with math nerds for any amount of time knows that they use various "tricks" to solve problems. Another chief climatologist notes that reading the entire exchange of emails rather than selective quotes actually reveals the "integrity of these scientists" who were merely talking about science.
It is also worth noting that the emails only involve one group of scientists out of the thousands who research and work on climate change. The emails also deal with a very limited set of data and do not discredit the numerous other studies and models showing an increase in CO2 levels and temperatures across the globe. In fact as Fox News released the article above which details the email "smoking gun" they also released another article stating that CO2 levels were higher in 2008 than ever before and warning that temperatures could rise by as much as 11 degrees Farenheit by 2100. So in the end the supporters of climate change legislation argue that the email do point to a smoking gun but on that only fires blanks. Watch the latest business video at For more info: .

UW's tournament resume could hinge on next three days
With the Big Ten stacked from top to the Iowa border even the conference champion might end up with five or even six losses in Big Ten play. Those in third fourth or even fifth place might find themselves ranked in early March despite barely finishing above .500 in the conference. You know what that means for the Big Ten's sixth seventh and eighth place finishers. Bubble bubble bubble.
That brings us the beautiful island of Hawaii where the UW men's basketball team which figures to be a factor in the Big Ten race can do themselves a big favor in the next three days by stacking their tournament resume with a couple quality victories and even a quality loss.
The Maui Invitational commences at 2 p.m. CT and a lineup that usually includes two or three Top 15 teams has been replaced with three or four teams that are looking to sneak up on the national competition this season.
It's a tournament that won't be easy but is certainly winnable for the Badgers. No matter what happens it's very likely the Badgers will be looking back at these next three days in mid-March saying "That's when we clinched our NCAA Tournaent berth" or "That's when we lost it."
Imagine if UW can just reach the Maui Invitational Championship Game. The Badgers could possibly play Arizona Gonzaga and Maryland in three straight days before capping off a four-game stretch with Duke next week at the Kohl Center. Even just a 2-2 record in that stretch would go a long way. A 3-1 record would be nothing short of a success.
So how does the Maui Invitational breakdown? Let's take a look at the field:
Top Half of the Bracket
No. 21 Maryland vs. Chaminade - 8:30 p.m. CT ESPN U - Line: Maryland -26
Maryland - Led by All-American candidate Greivis Vasquez the Terps are certainly a favorite in Maui if not the favorite. After a second round exit in the NCAA Tournament last season Maryland returns four starters and has two capable freshmen centers ready to step in and play.
Chaminade - The Division II host team made headlines when it upset No. 1 Virginia in 1982 but it doesn't figure to be a factor in any games this week. Maybe if Chaminade faces Colorado Wednesday it could pull off a win.
Cincinnati vs. No. 24 Vanderbilt - 4:30 p.m. CT ESPN 2 - Line: Vanderbilt -4
Cincinnati - The Bearcats figure to finish in the bottom half of the Big East this season after tying for ninth last year. Head coach Mick Cronin is doing a good job repairing a fractured program and Cincinnati could challenge Maryland if it can get by Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt - The Vandals are a sleeper in the SEC after failing to reach a post-season tournament last season. They are also a sleeper in Maui and like Cincy Vanderbilt is capable of upsetting Maryland if it can get out of the first round.
Bottom Half of the Bracket
Gonzaga vs. Colorado - 2 p.m. CT ESPN 2 - Line: Gonzaga -10.5
Gonzaga - The Zags had a case for jumping into the rankings this week even after losing at Michigan State. They looked impressive in East Lansing and nearly pulled off the upset. Sophomore forward Robert Sacre looks like a star in the making and Gonzaga's front court is the most loaded in this tournament.
Colorado - Basketball is never the story in Boulder and it won't be this season either. Colorado returns four starters but does that matter when they are coming off a 1-15 performance in Big 12 play last season?
Wisconsin vs. Arizona - 11 p.m. ESPN 2 - Line: Wisconsin -4
Wisconsin - The Badgers are a sleeper in this tournament but they will have to get past Arizona before they can make any noise. This figures to be a balanced offense but UW really needs either Trevon Hughes or Jason Bohannon to make a run at tournament MVP if they figure to win this thing.
Arizona - Sean Miller -- the hot coaching commodity in the offseason -- takes over a program that lost three starters but still boasts senior guard Nic Wise who will be a handful for Hughes. Miller's outstanding recruiting class will have to play older immediately if the Wildcats want to challenge for the Maui crown.

The American Music Awards last night had their share of "Holy @%$!" moments with Adam Lambert (video) Whitney Houston and Lady Gaga all making performances that have people talking and checking Youtube this morning.
Jennifer Lopez made her musical return last night as well in a performance as notable for a miscue as for anything else. She performed her new song "Louboutins" with a phalanx of dancers dressed as boxers.
Check out the video if you'd like to fast-forward to the fall start watching around the 2:50 mark.
Two things about this one show that Lopez is still a star. To start with she didn't miss a beat on the fall. That was a pretty good jump she landed flat and bounced right back up.
Here's the difference between Lopez (a star) and me (a schlep). Lopez falls after climbing a staircase made of human beings and literally standing on the back of a guy while belting out her notice to the world that she has returned. Heaping plates nullify Thanksgiving calorie cuts

Good news this Thanksgiving: Compared to 50 years ago some staples of the Turkey Day table have fewer calories.
The bad news? It probably won't matter because most Americans will eat too much anyway.
While Americans are notorious for cranking up the calories and portions compared to a generation or so ago small changes in the nation's diet seem to have buffered Thanksgiving dinner from some — but not all — of our bigger-better mentality.
To find out just what has changed about America's official gut-busting dinner The Associated Press asked Cornell University's Food and Brand Lab to analyze recipes from the 1950s and compare them to contemporary versions.
Previous studies of non-Thanksgiving recipes by lab director Brian Wansink had found that calorie counts for many classic cookbook recipes have ballooned by nearly 40 percent during the past 70 years.
But Thanksgiving staples didn't follow that trend.
Calorie counts for five of the eight recipes tested actually dropped by almost a third when comparing 1956 Better Homes and Gardens recipes to the 2006 edition of the "Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook" changes Wansink attributed partly to the use of lower-calorie ingredients such as low-fat milk instead of cream. Surprisingly some serving sizes went down over the decades too.
Per-serving calorie counts dropped an average of 102 calories for green beans with almonds stuffing mashed potatoes candied sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. They went up 26 calories for rolls and were essentially unchanged for corn and candied carrots.
That puts the total calorie count for a contemporary Thanksgiving dinner of those eight fixings plus a turkey drumstick at 2057 calories. The tally for 1956 was 2539 according to Cornell researcher Laura Smith.
But those numbers are accurate only if you eat proper serving sizes. And when was the last time you carefully measured out 6 ounces of candied sweet potatoes or called it a day after just one roll? Especially on Thanksgiving.
Wansink's research repeatedly has shown that controlling portions is not something Americans today are skilled at.
"There might be a little less butter put in the dressing or there might be fewer marshmallows on the sweet potatoes" he says. "But where you end up messing with them you end up serving up a lot more than your grandfather served himself."
Meals served at home have followed the same trend as restaurant and packaged food portions — more more more.
Even the plates on which Thanksgiving is served have grown since a generation ago (by more than a third according to Wansink's studies). By today's sensibilities older china sets seem more fitting for tapas than Turkey Day.
And Wansink's research has shown a link between larger plates and larger portions. Put simply a little lump of mashed potatoes can look awfully lonely on a foot-wide plate. The same dynamic works with wine consumption. Today's bigger glasses get bigger pours.
Wansink added that even in cases where recipes are about the same size today's families are smaller. That means more per person.
Even the turkeys are bigger. Today's big-breasted birds on average are 10 pounds heavier at slaughter compared to 1950 according to federal data. Recipes from the '50s actually included roasting instructions for 5-pound birds. Good luck finding one that small today.
Joan Salge Blake a nutrition professor at Boston University and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association thinks the tradition-bound nature of the Thanksgiving meal probably played a role in keeping the recipe calorie counts down.
"These are Grandma's recipes" which are less likely to change over generations she says.
Nancy Hopkins deputy editor of food and entertaining for Better Homes and Gardens isn't surprised by Wansink's findings. She says her company has responded to consumers who increasingly ask for healthier options including for Thanksgiving.
To see a real calorie spike all you have to do is compare Thanksgiving today to 1621 the year of the feast that inspired the holiday.
The menu enjoyed by the settlers and their Wampanoag guests — commonly knows now as the Pilgrims and Indians — is lost to history. But the limited clues available point to tables loaded with venison and wildfowl according to Kathleen Wall colonial foodways culinarian at Plimoth Plantation at Plymouth Mass. Other dishes may have included lobster mussels boiled greens and pumpkins.
But forget the fancy sides.
The Pilgrims probably had no potatoes in 1621 and if they had butter and sugar it came over on the Mayflower the year before. There was no dough so no pies. They may have eaten cranberries but not as a sweetened sauce. The birds probably were stuffed with little more than quartered onions and parsley Wall said.
The likely calorie count? A settler who gave thanks with a turkey drumstick some lobster boiled spinach and stewed pumpkin washed down by water — sorry no beer or wine yet — probably only ingested about 550 calories.
No fancy fatty stuff for the settlers who came over on the Mayflower. Salge jokes "they would have sunk the ship."

There's certainly no shortage of coverage about Black Friday tech sales and savvy shoppers have no doubt already scoped out their favorite deals from the leaked ad scans and early deals posted on sites such as BFads.net.
We've scanned some of the ads and picked several potentially promising Black Friday deals including limited-time special offers in order to give you some context on what constitutes a good doorbuster deal and what's just a bust.

Unlike some of the cheapest Celeron laptops out there we find models such as this with an Intel dual-core CPU to fit the basic definition of usability. Best Buy is offering this as a Friday doorbuster with a minimum of 10 per store (ticket required). We've typically seen similar systems for around $500.

Intel Celeron; 2GB RAM 160GB hard drive 15-inch screen
A full-size laptop for under $200 may seem tempting but we suggest you avoid any Celeron-powered systems. The nearly Netbook-level performance will definitely disappoint in a15-inch laptop. This is also a limited-quantity doorbuster and would normally sell for around $350-$400.
eMachines eME627 $198 Walmart
AMD Athlon 64; 2GB RAM; 160GB hard drive; 15-inch screen
As Acer/Gateway's nearly forgotten entry-level brand you don't hear a lot about eMachines these days. This deal is available 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Black Friday but we're still adamant that your expectations must be kept pretty low.
HP G71-329wm $398 Walmart
Intel Core 2 Duo T6600; 4GB RAM; 320GB hard drive; 17-inch screen
If it indeed has the standard Intel Core 2 Duo CPU we've seen reported (the Walmart site doesn't say) then this is a good deal for a basic desktop replacement laptop. While not technically a doorbuster quantities are limited.
HP Pavilion (model unknown); $379 OfficeMax
AMD Sempron; 3GB RAM; 160GB hard drive; 15-inch screen
Remember how we said you should avoid a Celeron-powered midsize laptop? Same goes for AMD's Sempron processor. We've seen similar systems for around $399 so it's not even much of a bargain.
Delstar DS700 $119 K-Mart
CPU unknown; 128MB RAM; 2GB SSD; 7-inch screen
It's like the first prototype Netbook ever made crawled out of the primordial swamps and stuck a "for sale" sticker on itself. Hopefully we don't have to tell you to avoid this Windows CE system with components more typical for a mobile phone even if it is being offered for $120 (down from the usual $150) as a Black Friday doorbuster.
Toshiba Satellite L505-S5984 $399 Best Buy
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500; 3GB RAM; 250GB hard drive; 15-inch screen
A real Intel Core 2 Duo CPU for the price of an HP Mini 311 Netbook. Considering it's only $50 more than the non-Black-Friday price of a typical Celeron-powered Toshiba this is a decent mainstream deal.

AMERICAN Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has refused to apologise for his daring performance at the American Music Awards where he simulated oral sex with a male dancer.
In front of millions of primetime viewers Lambert also made out with a male keyboardist Tommy Ratliff grabbing his crotch before flipping his middle finger to the crowd.
Lambert who was performing his new single For Your Entertainment has come under fire from some who believe that the exploits were too much for TV.
The View’s Sherri Shepherd twittered: “Did Adam Lambert just grind some dude's head in his crotch... TO MY NIECE... GO TO BED NOW!”
“And did Adam Lambert slip the tongue to one of his dancers???? Whoa... Celibate woman here... turning off TV now...”
The openly gay Lambert has refused to apologise saying that the sexual gestures happened “in the moment”.
He told Access Hollywood: “You know honestly if I offended some people... it’s apples and oranges.”
“I’m not an artist that does things for every single person I believe in artistic freedom and expression I believe in honouring the lyrics of a song and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either.”
The controversial moments of the performance were cut before being shown on the US west coast a move that Lambert labelled as “discrimination”.
Rolling Stone reported that none of Lambert’s sexual gestures were cleared by the event organisers before the show went live.
Earlier in the evening Michael Jackson took out four posthumous awards while Taylor Swift was crowned Artist of the Year.

* 5 egg yolks
* Salt
* 1 (9-inch) deep dish frozen pie shell

Directions:
-Slice potatoes into cubes and add them into steamer basket which should go into a large pot of simmering water for 20 minutes.
-Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
-With a stand mixer beat sweet potatoes in the bowl while adding yogurt brown sugar cinnamon nutmeg yolks and salt.
- Pour the entire thing into a pie shell and place onto a sheet pan and bake for 50 to 55 minutes.
Cranberry-Pear Crisp:
*1 cup all-purpose flour
*1/2 cup granulated sugar
*1/4 cup light brown sugar
*1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
*1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
*1/4 teaspoon salt
*1/2 cup (4 oz./1 stick) cold butter cut into chunks
*1/4 cup chopped walnuts
*3 pounds firm-ripe pears peeled cored and cut into 1-inch chunks
*1 cup fresh cranberries rinsed and any bruised or decaying berries discarded
Instructions:
-Mix flour 1/4 cup granulated sugar brown sugar cinnamon nutmeg and salt in a bowl with a mixer until mixture forms coarse crumbs.
-In another large bowl mix pears cranberries and remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
-Bake in a 375 °F (190 °C) until pears are tender.

The 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships were held today at Indiana State University.
Oklahoma State won the Men's Team 10000 meter competition with a finish time of 2:30:21 and Sam Chelanga from Liberty University finished in 28:41.3 and won the men's individual 10000 meter race.
The women's team winner was Villanova University in the 6000 meter race in  1:42:00 and Angela Bizzarri from Illinois University won the women's individual competition in 19:46.8. The top three finishing results are shown below:

J. Lo fell on stage Adam Lambert’s performance raised um eyebrows with his crotch-kicking oral-sex referencing performance and Taylor Swift continued her award-winning dominance by grabbing Artist of the Year. It’s the 2009 American Music Awards which is apparently something about which people now care.
The ceremony which took place last night saw actress Jennifer Lopez make a case for herself as a candidate for the Three Stooges remake by having a little spill on the AMA floor. Happens to the best of us so no worries J. Lo! Watch the video of her spill here:
To be fair J. Lo was climbing a staircase of man-meat which looks like an attempted feat that is as ludicrous as it is unsafe. The fact that she only had a minor slip appears to be a miracle.
And what about Adam Lambert? That’s a thing right? Well apparently it’s a thing that has a penchant for face-humping as this clip from his AMA performance indicates (take a look at about the 1:00 minute mark). Between this and the J. Lo performance it was bondage night at the 2009 AMAs. It’s as if someone looked at old Cirque Du Solei footage and said “I think that’s a little too restrained. Let’s try something with a little more zazz!” Sure award shows have lots of spectacle but this is kind of out-of-control. Apparently crotch-grinding is still transgressive? Like Michael Jackson transgressive?
But do you want to know who’s in control right now? Of music of life of not being interrupted by Kanye West? You guessed it. Frank Stallone. No! I mean Taylor Swift. Swift won the Artist of the Year proving that blond girls with pretty songs and pretty guitars never ceases to impress the general population. So hot damn!
Speaking of hot how about Lady Gaga doing that running-in-place dance over and over again? If nothing else she proved that she’d make a heck of an aerobic instructor. One-and-two-and-three-and-four!

During a pretty complex dance routine of jumping over people and off of others Lopez whiped out after landing from a stunt.

Sunday night during the American Music Awards (AMAs) Jennifer Lopez fell during a live performance. Lopez walked up a staircase of men and jumped down after reaching the top she landed on her feet and then quickly slipped and fell. She jumped up quickly and acted like it didn’t happen. So if you weren’t paying close attention during the live performance you may not have noticed. See the video below.
The theme to Jennifer Lopez’s dance was boxing so all of the dancers were in boxing shorts and so was she. There were many quick jab-like moves and this almost appeared to be one of them but rest assured she fell.

'American Idol:' did Adam Lambert expose double standard?

Adam Lambert isn't just generating controversy for the quality of his American Music Awards performance on Sunday night; he is also drawing out comments from gay and lesbian advocacy groups who claim ABC and Dick Clark Productions' decision to censor the "American Idol" runner-up's dance moves on the west coast feed was due to there being a pre-existing "double standard." Adam at one point thrust a man's head close to his crotch while performing single "For Your Entertainment."
After the performance gay rights publication The Advocate gave a statement to Radar Online:
“In his first major television performance outside 'American Idol' Adam Lambert delivered the sexually charged number we expected from him last night on the AMAs. It was reminiscent of other envelope-pushing performances by provocative artists like Madonna and Janet Jackson. It’s unfortunate that ABC and Dick Clark Productions censored the performance for west coast audiences highlighting the double standard that still exists for gay entertainers.”
ABC meanwhile took a more innocent stance on the issue claiming that "due to the live nature of the show [they] did not expect the impromptu moment in question.”
Adam Lambert has already mentioned publicly that he does not want his homosexuality to define his musical career. He recently was embroiled in some controversy with Out Magazine after failing to fully support their agenda as a gay man.

Gonzaga beat Colorado in the Maui Invitational on Monday. The Gonzaga vs. Colorado game was in the first round of the 2009 Maui Invitational and marked a very exciting game that saw Gonzaga come back after being down late. The win means that Gonzaga will now take on the winner of the Arizona vs. Wisconsin game happening tonight on ESPN2. The Gonzaga second round game will take place on Tuesday November 24th with tip-off coming at 6:30 P.M. PST. The 2009 Maui Invitational has a number of great teams including Gonzaga Arizona Wisconsin Vanderbilt Maryland and Cincinnati in the groupings.
The game didn't start out well for the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Monday as they were trailing early and fell behind by a score of 40 to 29 at halftime. It meant that the Bulldogs were going to have to act fast if they wanted to get back into the game and they were able to do exactly that. The team seemed really sluggish in the first half but must have received a nice pep-talk from Coach Few because they came out much stronger in the second half. First Gonzaga ripped off a big run to take the lead from Colorado and then they were able to hold them off in the closing moments to win the game 76 to 72. It was quite a swing in momentum for Gonzaga and should have them ready to go for the second round of the 2009 Maui Invitational on Tuesday.
Leading the way for Gonzaga was guard Steven Gray who scored 27 points including 11 for 14 from the free throw line. Fellow starter Matt Bouldin also chipped in 21 pints of his own with center Robert Sacre scoring an additional 10. The Gonzaga bench showed itself to not be quite as strong as hoped as they only put up eight of the 76 total points for the team. On the night Gonzaga shot 47.8% from the field and looked good on offense. Where the improvements need to come for Gonzaga is on defense because allowing Colorado to shoot 53.1% from the field just isn't going to cut it against some of the better teams in both the tournament and their conference.
With the victory Gonzaga now sits at 3-1 on the season after having lost a nail-biter to Michigan State last week. Advancing to the second round of the 2009 Maui Invitational also means that more poll voters are going to take notice of the team and that should help them attain a national ranking if they can win a couple of more games. Gonzaga looks like the team to beat in the WCC this year but they have a tough out-of-conference schedule that includes Washington State University and Wake Forest once the Maui Invitational comes to an end that could really get them the additional national recognition.

Bad news my friends. I'm down with what my doctor now believes to be the dreaded H1N1 flu virus. I was especially bummed to cancel my hometown Halloween show on Saturday but now I'm sorry to announce the following performances w/ Fiery Furnaces and Cryptacize have been cancelled:

I'll be back in full force for a special headlining show at Schuba's in Chicago on Tuesday Nov 10th and I'll continue on with the Furnaces and Cryptacize to finish out the tour. I can't apologize enough to you guys and I hope to make it up to the aformentioned cities sooner than later. - Dent MayAs noted by the date above (11/4) that Maxwell's show is tonight. According to the venue's website there is no one replacing him and tickets are still on sale. Feel better Dent!
Tickets are also still on sale for the two shows the Fiery Furnaces are playing in NYC in December (MHOW with Private Income and Bowery Ballroom with opener TBA).

Cheap? Sure. But here's a look at which of Best Buy's Black Friday sales get good scores from reviewers.

Best Buy Black Friday: 2009 sales features decent deals on laptops TVs and video games. But let's look past the price tags.
Pay close attention to the Giants/Broncos game on Thanksgiving day. You may pick up some important defensive tricks before braving Best Buy’s Black Friday crowd.
Best Buy reminded customers this morning that doors will open at 5 a.m. on Friday. Better bring a jacket store floor plan and maybe protective pads. Things can get ugly.
Today’s email from Best Buy included a link to their digital circular. But before you start your shopping list let’s take a moment to look past the prices and see if these deep-discount TVs laptops and video game systems are worth buying. Here are some reviews to accompany Best Buy’s 2009 sales.
Samsung 46-inch LED-LCD HDTV: User reviews sing the praises of this super-thin 1080p television. But it’s “doorbuster” Black Friday price â $1599 â seems unimpressive. Savvy shoppers can avoid the lines and pick up essentially the same TV now from Amazon for $1749. Both stores will deliver the Energy-Star-compliant TV for free. But Best Buy will sweeten the deal with free installation and will recycle your old television at no extra charge.
PlayStation 3 bundle: On Friday and Saturday shoppers can pick up the top-of-the-line video game console with two free games “Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition” and “Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time.” The whole package is $299. The PS3 has gained a lot of momentum from its recent price drop and solid feature set including free online play free Netflix streaming service built-in Blu-ray player and HD graphics. The bundled games also get top marks from reviewers (95 percent and 86 percent respectively according to Metacritic). Both appeal to a younger set of gamers or at least the young at heart.
Xbox 360 bundle: Numerically Best Buy pulled together an even better deal for gamers eying a new Xbox 360. But reviews may say differently. This Black Friday deal includes the high-end Elite console and six games all for $299. The Xbox itself is a great value with more online features than the PS3 a larger catalog of games and a higher install base â so more of your friends are likely to own one. But the six selected games are a little weak. Here’s the list (with review scores from Metacritic): Sonic the Hedgehog (46 percent) Spider Man: Web of Shadows (68) Wall-E (50) LEGO Batman (76) Pure (85) Ghost Recon 2 (86).
Compaq Mini Netbook: This pint-size ‘puter comes with a similarly tiny price tag: $179. The 10.1-inch laptop is a Best Buy exclusive so it’s hard to find independent reviews. But similar netbooks such as the Dell Inspiron Mini 10v Netbook cost twice as much. Remember though these itty-bitty machines are not meant to replace full-sized PCs. Netbooks trade away high-end specs for its petite frame and therefore should be secondary computers for email and light Web use.
Garmin Nuvi 205w GPS device: This entry-level GPS unit is “very good” according to CNET. The large touch screen and simple interface works wonders if you’re not expecting too many features. Best Buy’s Black Friday price $99 is a solid deal. Most retailers want between $130 and $175. More info here.

Report: Consumers not yet prepared to purchase via socnets
The latest Consumer eTail report from GSI Commerce found that while British consumers expect to spend more online during the holiday season very few said they would be likely to purchase via social networks.

Along with research specialists Maximiles GSI Commerce surveyed over 2000 British adults to discover more about their willingness and expectations to purchase gifts online during the coming Christmas shopping season.
Overall the news is good. A quarter of those surveyed were willing to spend over $1650 on a single product up from 12% last year and less are putting a limit on the amount they spend online.
However the survey found that consumers weren't yet prepared to purchase via social networks. Just 9% said they would be "likely" to make purchases via social sites such as Facebook or MySpace and 28% were "positively unlikely" to do so.
"Social networks are fantastic forums to listen and engage with your customers but as the data reveals at the moment in the vast majority of cases they are simply inappropriate for transactional interactions" said Steve Davis EVP & President International GSI Commerce.
"While there is no doubt that incorporating features like these will result in a corporate PR benefit to a retailer the question they need to be asking is not 'what cool stuff can we add to our store' but 'where can we add value for our customers'."

And we're not kidding!
Local El Lay DJ Matthew Roberts went on a search for his biological father and found a serial killer!
After locating his birth mother he discovered that his father was Charles Manson! And what's worse is that his conception was the result of a rape in 1967.
"She even said 'You look just like him'" said Roberts.
And as you could imagine the discovery sent him into a severe depression!
"I didn't want to believe it. I was frightened and angry. It's like finding out that Adolf Hitler is your fatherâ he continued. "I'm a peaceful person - trapped in the face of a monster."
In order to confirm Roberts began exchanging mail with Manson who is detained for life at Corcoran State Prison in California.
âHe sends me weird stuff and always signs it with his swastikaâ he continued. âAt first I was stunned and depressed. I wasn't able to speak for a day. I remember not being able to eat."
Manson's response is truly disturbing when he remembered raping Terry Roberts' birth mother: "The truth is the truth. The truth hurts."
Although Matthew fears that he has characteristics that resemble his father "I'm not nuts but I've got a little bit of it. It's scary and upsetting. If I get worked up my eyes get really big and that's really freaked some people out before. I've tried to tone that down quite a bit. I don't like having that effect on people."
But he won't pick up the phone to call Manson!
"If I did talk to Charlie on the phone I would say 'I truly understand what it's like to be you more than anyone could ever imagine on so many levels.'â
CHARLIE?!
"He's my biological father - I can't help but have some kind of emotional connection. That's the hardest thing of all - feeling love for a monster who raped my mother. I don't want to love him but I don't want to hate him either" said Roberts.
This is truly a case where ignorance is bliss!

Just for the record Barbie Charles Manson isn't a serial killer. As a matter of fact it is believed that good old Charlie never actually killed anyone. He is in jail because of conspiracy in the murder spree which his family members carried out. That poor DJ has one hell of a legacy to deal with. Rot in hell Charlie.

No good can come from further contact and frankly this information was better not having been revealed for all involved. This dude should take comfort that as long as his mental health is being attended to he need have no further worries because biology (of which he has only 50% of Manson's) is only part of who we become. The nurture over nature argument should comfort him.

Wow I can imagine what that feels like! Poor man! I would describe my own father - with whom I did grow up - as a mentally disturbed asshole who can't control his anger (minus all the killing of course). And I sometimes catch myself behaving the way he would short fuse and all. That's one of the most disturbing things to discover that you've got something in common with a person you're trying so hard not to be. Thank nature for the other 50% of my gene pool! Poor dude that's a lot to take in and I agree that he probably shouldn't pursue further contact with Manson! Some people just aren't worth it family or not! You gotta look out for your own good and sanity!!

Poor guy. I can't imagine how conflicted he must feel. You don't pick your gene pool but it's still your blood. I can see what he says about "I don't want to love him but I don't want to hate him." I've had friends with sh**y parents who feel the same way. Kind of reminds me of this interesting interview I saw with Jeffrey Dahmer's parents. His poor mother's face carried a burden I can't begin to imagine. She cried in sympathy for the victims' families especially their parents. But at the same time there was so much guilt with the fact that - although you can't forgive or excuse your child's actions - you can't hate your child either. This seems somewhere along these lines. Hope he can make peace for himself.

It doesn't MATTER if someone's a "biological father" when it comes to "emotional connection" or not. That is an ignorant myth. It is NOT an automatic thing. It is entirely possible to have no emotional connection WHAT SO EVER to a biologiclal relative. And I would suggest some minor medication for the guy to relieve any potential psychosis he may have inherited. There are all kinds of helpful meds out there.

Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas has given the 60th vote needed for the Senate health care bill to advance. The legislation will therefore come the floor for debate after Thanksgiving recess.
But Lincoln issued a warning to Senate Democrats.
She vowed to vote against the bill in the next major vote if the government-run plan the "public option" is not removed by the end of the amendment process.
“Although I don’t agree with everything in this bill I have concluded that I believe it is more important that we begin this debate to improve our nation’s health care system for all Americans rather than just simply drop the issue and walk away” Lincoln said.
She added “Attempts by the national Republican Party and other conservative groups to portray this as a vote for or against this particular health care reform bill is untrue.”
Lincoln repeatedly said that this vote was “not my last or only chance to have an impact.”
“I’m not thinking about my reelection the legacy of a president or whether Democrats or Republicans are going to be able to claim victory in winning this debate” she said in announcing her support to advance the bill to the Senate floor.
Reid is declaring victory but that celebration will be short lived if Lincoln actually blocks a bill that includes a government-run plan.
“Let me be perfectly clear” she said. “I am opposed to a new government administered health care plan as a part of comprehensive health insurance reform and I will not vote in favor of the proposal that has been introduced by leader Reid as it is written.”

eBay Motors founder Simon Rothman announced on Monday that he has officially launched a new e-commerce site Glyde.
According to the press release Glyde's goal "is to democratize e-commerce." The site was born out of Rothman's desire to make it easier for Web users to buy and sell products online.
But Glyde throws in a twist. The site's marketplace is designed for Web users to sell used goods. They can sell books CDs DVDs and video games.
"The average American household has $3000 worth of unwanted media collecting dust" Rothman said in a statement. "We built a service that makes buying and selling a used DVD as simple as trading a share of Disney stock. It's the NASDAQ for physical goods."
It's an interesting take on what Glyde is all about. But after using the site for awhile I would agree that it does make it extremely easy to buy and sell goods.
Glyde lets you search for DVDs CDs Games or books.

Glyde's design is extremely simple. If you decide you want to buy some products you can flip through the listing of available inventory pick what you want and learn more about it by clicking on it without much trouble. Unlike sites like Amazon or eBay which deliver you to a product's individual page listing Glyde displays the listing over the search results. When you're done looking at it simply click the "X" at the top right of the panel and you'll be returned to your spot in the results.
Placed prominently on all product pages is a "Buy Now" button. Users have the option of buying a used copy of the product from a seller or a new copy.

Glyde's buying process isn't all that unique. It's standard fare. And even though it offers discounted pricing I just don't think it competes well against Amazon's Marketplace or eBay. Those sites have far more products competitive pricing and simpler checkout processes. Unless Glyde can improve upon that it might have a problem.
But it's Glyde's selling side that will probably appeal most to users. The site makes it incredibly simple to sell products. Users need only to list the product set a sales price and wait for someone to buy. Once they do Glyde sends them a prestamped preaddressed mailer. Sellers need to insert the item they're selling into the mailer and place it in their mailbox. Once the buyer receives the product the funds are deposited into the seller's account less the cost of the mailer and Glyde's fee which is 10 percent of the sales price.
Even better those selling products on Glyde can opt for the proceeds to go to the charity of their choice. It's a nice option.
Glyde provides a simple efficient e-commerce solution. But by taking on giants eBay and Amazon in the used-goods market it will be difficult for the company to stay relevant and capture significant market share.

In the aftermath of the Miley Cyrus bus wreck details are starting to come out about what may have happened to William Douglas 53 the bus driver and the 911 calls have been released.
In the first 911 call someone tells the dispatcher that William Douglas is still alive but he is 'losing color' and police will hope that this will help determine if Mr. Douglas died before the crash happened or after.
In the second it is mentioned that Mr. Douglas is suffering from cardiac arrest. It in the third call that the caller is being instructed on how to perform CPR and that person mentions that there are people trapped in the bus.
Police tell TMZ there were no obvious signs that alcohol played a factor in the crash and believe Douglas may have had health-related issues. The matter is still under investigation.

Reportedly production on "Cougar Town" has been suspended so that star Courteney Cox can attend to a family matter.
An ABC rep called the issue a "private family matter."
Because no other details were released on the nature of the family matter the entertainment blogosphere has been doing a lot of head scratching.
A recent interview with OK! magazine may provide a hint.
Cox spoke about trying for a second baby with husband David Arquette soon. The actress said she can feel her biological clock ticking and would definitely love to expand her family.
She told the magazine "We're not trying yet. We're revving up the engines. I'm only ready 'cause time's a-ticking."
"If I was 34 I'd wait another year because I like those three-to-four gaps. I want Coco to be helping me with the next one. One child is hard. Two is probably harder."
Cox 45 and Arquette 38 have one daughter together Coco who is 5 years old.
She also took on reports that claimed that she can't have more children.
"There was a photo of me coming out of a doctor's office and it said that I'm going through menopause and that I'm really upset because I can't have another child."

A THORNLIE man and his wife are facing drug possession charges after allegedly being caught in possession of leaves from an exotic khat tree.
Cannington Detectives identified three Australia Post parcels which contained 7.5 kg of khat leaf a listed prohibited drug which contains cathinone .
It is not illegal to grow the trees which are found in Perth but it is illegal to possess the leaves for use as a drug.
Khat also contains cathine which is listed as being a poison and is restricted to prescription or supply by a medical practitioner.
Detectives searched the couple’s home after the packages were delivered and allegedly found another 25kg of khat leaf and cash.
The 40-year-old male occupant and his 37-year-old wife were charged with possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and attempting to possess the drug to sell or supply.
They are due to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Most recently the rivalry got new attention last year on the 40'th anniversary of one of their legendary clashes. 1968 was the year where "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29" after the Crimson scored 16 points in the final minute for a tie.
Both teams had perfect records and were playing in the middle of massive social turmoil in Harvard. The match was detailed in a hit documentary last year and in a brand new book this year.
For this Harvard-Yale game the 2009 versions are not perfect - although Harvard did ruin Yale's perfect season in their last visit there in 2007. However the Crimson had designs on being perfect in the Ivy League and winning another conference title. But the Penn Quakers shattered those hopes last week beating Harvard on a goal-line stand to win the Ivy crown.
All Harvard can do is share the title if they beat Yale and if Penn is upset by Cornell. Even if that doesn't happen the Crimson will gain some consolation in beating their arch-nemesis on their home field.

A dairy farm called Smith & Sons was cited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for giving cows excessive amounts of penicillin and other medications to compensate for a lack of appropriate care. Cows were not cared for properly which resulted in illness. The illness was then medicated with out adequate record-keeping or care for the fact that medication passes into milk and into the flesh of the animal if it is sent to a meat-packing plant.
Penicillin levels in the cow tested
The cow that was tested by the FDA had penicillin levels that were three times the threshold level for food safety. Penicillin is an antibiotic that is used in both humans and animals to prevent bacterial infections.

In search of an antiseptic agent Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in the 1920's. His discoveries were not immediately accepted and the first human wasn't successfully treated with penicillin until 1941.

Bradley Lockhart Shaniya Davis’ father was on Oprah Friday speaking about the death of his five year old daughter; her cause of death has been determined as asphyxiation. Bradley Lockhart was visibly upset today during his interview on The Oprah Show and his sister who watched Shaniya most of the time joined in the interview.
Bradley Lockhart said that people from around the world have reached out to his family to express their deep sympathy. He said that what happens to the person who committed this crime is not up to him but the justice system. See the video below of Bradley Lockhart’s interview on the Today Show.
In a press conference Thursday evening police stated that preliminary autopsy results found that Shaniya Davis was raped before she died and the cause of death was strangulation. Shaniya Davis is the 5 year old girl who went missing November 10 and whose body was found Monday. The police stated that testing is still being completed and a final report has not been issued in the death of Shaniya Davis.
A hotel surveillance video identified Mario Andrette McNeill as the man who kidnapped Shaniya. She was last seen being carried by McNeill into a hotel room. McNeill 29 had been charged with first degree kidnapping but will now be charged with first degree murder and first degree rape of a child. Shaniya Davis' mother has been charged with human trafficking for more information on that story click here.
Human trafficking is a growing problem around the country including Utah. It is one of the top three most profitable hidden industries. The Utah Human Trafficking task force includes two agencies that are funded through the US Dept of Justice. They support efforts to investigate and prosecute cases and help victims according to the FBI office in Salt Lake City.

Mario McNeill charged with kidnapping rape and the murder of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis heads to Raleigh's Central Prison. In Thursday's news conference Fayetteville Police Department's Chief Tom Bergamine stated that he hopes the Davis family can put this behind them and begin the healing process.
Shaniya Davis has been missing since November 10 2009. Over 250 searchers including law enforcement were hoping not to find Shaniya Davis murdered in the Lee County wooded area along Walker Road but the day had come one week after her disappearance.
Antoinette Davis claimed that her daughter was placed onto a couch at 5:30 a.m. on that Tuesday morning. She came back to check on her but her daughter was gone.
Antoinette made a 911 call as heard in the audio supplied by Raleigh's own Wral.com.
Antoinette Nicole Davis Shaniya's biological mother was charged with human trafficking felony child abuse involving prostitution filing a false police report and interfering with an investigation earlier this week. Antoinette Davis remains behind bars pregnant and faces over 23 years of jail time for the recent charges. Just one of the charges carries a 261 month prison term 21.75 years. She has been charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors all together.

Shaniya Davis' autopsy results has revealed new information surrounding asphyxiation however the facts of Shaniya Davis' cause of death have not been fully released. The asphyxiation definition in this case would be to deprive of oxygen.
Mario Andrette McNeill has been charged with first-degree murder first-degree rape of a child and first-degree kidnapping charges for abducting Shaniya Davis on November 10 2009. McNeill is now being held without bail. He is in isolation in the Cumberland County Detention Center for his own protection.
Mario McNeill's history has shown countless illegal activities. In 2001 McNeill shot three people. Mario McNeill was placed on supervised probation for the shooting and drug charges.
Mario McNeill then violated his probation was sent to jail for three years released charged with drug possession again placed back on supervised probation charged with cocaine possession and soon after Mario McNeill was charged with striking a police officer with his vehicle. Mario McNeill was placed on unsupervised probation as a possible result of the police officers not knowing if Mario McNeill had pending charges.
Raleigh North Carolina will unfold a pilot program that will connect law enforcement and others to criminal records at a faster rate. As for Mario McNeill Mr. McNeill's future will be nothing like his past.
Reports according to Wral have offered the information that Shaniya Davis was raped on the day she disappeared. The same day McNeill abducted Shaniya Davis.

As of 2:30 this afternoon Mario McNeill was told by a Judge that he is facing life without parole or the death penalty for his actions. What is next for McNeill? McNeill heads to Raleigh's Central Prison and will not be placed in the prison population.
Bradley Lockhart Shaniya Davis' father held a news conference this week hoping that his words of his "angel" would spread awareness so that an unfortunate situation such as the one that happened with his daughter would not occur again.
Cumberland County is said to be the jurisdiction of the Shaniya Davis murder case. The new Mario McNeill murder charge and other charges against him would be in the jurisdiction of Cumberland County.
Shaniya Davis funeral arrangements have been made for 3 p.m. Sunday at Manna Church located on 517 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville North Carolina according to Wral.

CHATTANOOGA Tenn. — With plush lounge chairs gourmet appetizers a VIP auditorium and the latest digital and 3-D equipment Chattanooga's newest movie theater complex doesn't need toilets that flush rain water to sell tickets.
Carmike Cinemas Inc. and the RiverCity Co. went beyond creature comforts and high-tech gadgetry to build and open a theater that they claim is an environmental first. The Columbus Ga.-based theater company's Majestic 12 opened last weekend just a short walk from Chattanooga's redeveloped riverfront and the Bijou 7 it is replacing.
U.S. Green Building Council spokeswoman Ashley Katz said Carmike has applied for LEED certification for the 70000-square-foot building.
LEED Gold certification means it adheres to the greenest building standards requiring use of recycled materials in construction and environmentally friendly amenities to reduce energy consumption.
The 12-screen 2500-seat theater building representing $12 million invested by RiverCity Co. and local private foundations is catching rain on the roof for toilets and landscaping using low-energy lighting and making electricity with solar panels.
Movie-goers are more likely to notice the adult-only VIP auditorium the Ovation Room which serves beer and upscale snacks like crab cakes salads and specialty desserts and delivers them to customers at their seats.
"People will be able to sit in La-Z-Boy type seats push a button and a foot rest comes out" Carmike corporate spokesman Dale Hurst said.
Kim White chief executive of RiverCity Co. said in a statement that the theater is expected to more than double the number of moviegoers downtown to between 375000 to 400000 people annually.
The theater built by EMJ Corp. and designed by Artech Design Group has two 60-foot screens each almost three stories high. Rick Thompson an owner of Artech said the theater building will be unique when it is LEED certified.
Katz said the Green Building Council does not keep records that would show if the theater is the first to get LEED certification.
"As far as we can determine this is the first one in the country" Thompson said. "We have done a lot of research on that."
Janice Kelley and her son Mike came out of the theater after paying $10 each for a showing of the new 3-D animation version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" saying they were very favorably impressed especially with the quality of the picture and sound.
"I love the theater" she said. "I love the chairs. I like the way they have it arranged."
A 58-year-old credit union executive from Rossville Ga. Kelley also said the theater's environmentally friendly features are a "big plus."
"I'm all about the environment" she said.

The orgy of holiday game releases is starting to take its toll dear readers. This week alone saw the release of LittleBigPlanet PSP and God of War Collection (the last two of which I’ll cover in posts early next week).
But there was one game released in the last few days that packs almost as much play time as the rest combined. I’m talking of course about Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed II (UbiSoft/Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/Windows) and while I’m still some way from finishing this enormous adventure I think I’m ready to provide some solid impressions.
Much like its predecessor the game plays out in the mind of Desmond Miles a modern day man who through a gene-reading device known as the Animus recalls the events of an ancestral assassin. Whereas in the first game he remembered the life of Altaïr a Middle Eastern killer-for-hire who lived in the 12th century this time he summons up a man named Ezio and his doings in the towns of Florence Venice and the Tuscan countryside in 15th century Italy.
I remember Assassin’s Creed as being a massive sprawling open-world adventure but its scope still seems to pale in comparison to that of its successor. I’m not sure that Assassin’s Creed II’s gorgeous and meticulously detailed world is larger but it is certainly more alive and authentic.
Whenever we run across genuine landmarks and notable people we have the option of calling up an encyclopedia-like entry that provides the historical details and significance of that particular place or person. Indeed it’s about as educational as a game not specifically designed for pedagogy can be—though don’t take everything you read at face value; the writers have cleverly mingled in plenty of fictional entries for the sake of the tale making it vaguely akin to a Dan Brown book.
What's more our range of objectives is far broader in the sequel. For the first dozen hours or so you’ll be provided countless new objectives not only in the form of individual “memories” (Assassin’s Creed lingo for missions) but also serial objectives such as: looking for codex pages that our hero’s bright friend Leonardo da Vinci will analyze and decode to provide insight on weapons armour and tactics; hunting down more than 300 hundred hidded treasure chests and 100 eagle feathers; and—my favourite of the side missions—finding and analyzing dozens of glyphs on the sides of buildings that lead to random puzzles which when completed unlock video files left behind by another Animus subject.
And that’s to say nothing of our ability to pull down wanted posters murder city officials and bribe town-criers in an attempt to lower our notoriety the new vendors that sell us weapons armour healing aids and other items our quest to find the artifacts that will unlock Altaïr’s armour which has been locked away for centuries in a clever vault on Ezio’s uncle’s estate or our charge to invest in and rebuild said uncle’s countryside village in hopes of restoring it to its former glory.
Put simply this is the sort of game a player could lose him or herself in for weeks—especially given the game’s tremendous writing and voice work.
Without giving away too much Ezio is out for revenge after several people close to him are unjustly executed. He’s unfamiliar with his family’s history and the war between Templars and Assassins—the franchise’s overarching plot—which sets the stage for other characters to explain to him what’s at stake which is helpful since players who haven’t played the first game will likely be highly confused by the first few moments of the second which see Desmond escaping a high-tech prison run by modern-day Templars and talking with 21st centurry Assassins about the conflict he and his ancestors have been fighting for a millennium.
Themes of honour trust and religion (or lack of it) run deeply throughout the narrative. Our protagonists have complex motives not all of which might rightly be described as moral. And our enemies—specifically those whom Ezio assassinates—aren’t always the purely evil creatures we believe them to be when we first put blade to throat. Returning players won’t be shocked by any of this as the original’s story was equally multifaceted and engaging but new players might be surprised at just how sympathetic and tragic many of Assassin’s Creed II’s characters are.
A couple of other things that haven’t changed a whole lot between games are the way in which we move around the environment and fight.
Assasin’s Creed II ports its predecessor’s extraordinarily accessible parkour-like city navigation and to good effect. Just hold down the trigger and guide Ezio’s direction with a thumbstick and he will perform amazing gymnastic feats from running up the sides of buildings and tiptoeing across narrow street-spanning beams to leaping between rooftops and scaling walls with catlike grace. Veterans of the first game will feel at home in minutes and appreciate new elements such as areas designed to let Ezio put together amazing strings of maneuvers. Newbies won’t take much longer.
Combat meanwhile still offers the same thrillingly vicious assassinations and strategic blade-based battles. Ezio has a healthy selection of sharp-edged killing implements including retractable blades attached to his arms a dagger a sword and even throwing knives. When in battle he can quickly and instantly kill almost anyone who isn’t facing him. Enemies focused on him however require a cunning mix of guard strafe and counter movements which involve holding down a trigger and tapping a button at just the right moment.
Fighting might sound tricky but it’s actually pretty easy to get the hang of. More challenging is trying to escape a brawl. Ezio is after all an assassin which means stealth is one of his primary assets. We can throw coins to attract swarms of civilians hire courtesans to distract guards or simply blend in with the crowd to go unnoticed. It’s difficult at first but expert stealth play makes the game feel much more fluid and believable than simply attacking every group of guards we run across.
Long story short Assassin’s Creed II is better than the original and one of the very best games I’ve played this year. That such a fine game was crafted in Canada is yet further proof that the Great White North is at the forefront of top notch cutting edge interactive entertainment. We should all be proud of Ubisoft's Québécois gamesmiths.

WEST PALM BEACH FL -- Midnight was the vampires' hour in theaters across the country for premiere night of the latest installment to the "Twilight" series "New Moon".
Muvico in City Place was packed late Thursday night into the early morning hours with teenaged girls and working moms who wanted to be the first to see the film's sequel.
Most fans piled out of the theater gushing with excitement over their favorite vampire Edward and new rival for his true love's affections Jacob.
New Moon is rated PG-13.

A “New Moon ” is shining now on its opening day world wide. This Friday Morning is the grand opening day of “Twilight Saga New Moon” and it is much anticipated and expected that this movie will dominate the search engine and will be the most searched world in the internet this next couple of days.
As early as yesterday and with the movie’s opening midnight screening and premier nights across the country and around the world it seems that everyone is trying to witness this sequel of Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” vampire series.
For those who haven’t read the best selling books here’s a re-cap for you: Bella a quiet teenager moves to a small town in Washington where she meets the mysterious and hunky Edward Cullen. And yes Edward is a vampire and they fall in love hopelessly.
Another leading man name Jacob is the childhood friend of Bella’s and he is also a warewolf and the mortal enemy of vampires. A love triangle will be created among the main character and thus the fans are picking up teams whether they want the Team Edward or Team Jacob.
As early as last week searches for keywords such as Watch New Moon online for free Where Can I watch New Moon online for free Twilight Saga New Moon Full Movie live streaming New moon reviews New Moon Opening Night New Moon quotes and Watch Twilight Saga New Moon full free downloading and New Moon quotes have shown the highest search in Google Trends and in other big search engines.
I guess you will ask what is the difference between the “Twilight” and “New Moon” movies. Perhaps the most notable difference is the action sequences of werewolves vs vampires and so as well with the visual flair and polish.
While many critics acknowledge how the film serve its base they also argue that “New Moon” will not hit home for those less familiar with the franchise mythology. Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicles said that “Everyone else get ready for a bizarre soap opera/pageant consisting of a succession of static scenes with characters loping into the frame to announce exactly what they’re thinking. Then the spell out their personalities for us. Here is an emotionally tortured vampire. Here is a perky friendly vampire. And don’t forget the vampire who is dedicated physician.”
As expected these keywords and trends will continue and get its highest pick from the date of opening until this coming weekend.

Crowds wearing Team Jacob and Team Edward T-shirts sold out seven theaters at Rave Motion Pictures in Destin for the premiere of New Moon at midnight on Friday.
The movie was preceded by pre-parties hosted by the Destin Library and the Hard Rock Cafe. Ashley Ward of Destin 14 who said she read all four Twilight books in nine days stopped by the library party at the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce meeting room for Twilight trivia and discussions before catching the premier at midnight.
“I love the books” Ward said. “It’s such a good story. It kinda made me think differently about people and boys and how they should treat you.”
On Thursday MovieTickets.com announced that New Moon had topped franchises Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings to become No. 1 on the list of top ten advance ticket sellers of all time. Chuck May manager of Rave Motion Pictures said the movie had already sold out four theaters by Thursday and he would be adding extra staff for premier night and playing the film in all available theaters.
Len Lively owner of Lively Cinema 10 said that the movie would be huge for them as well. By Thursday he had already sold out about ten percent of his theater. And he said he expected a good turnout on premier night.
“When big movies like this come out the Rave sells out and we get their overflow” Lively said. “It’s gonna be great for us and I’m ready for it.”
Jeremy Devine Marketing VP for Rave Motion Pictures said ticket sales for New Moon are comparable to the sales for the last Harry Potter movie. He said he expected it to be one of their top ten midnight shows ever.
Ward said on Thursday that she was so excited for the movie because she has been waiting for so long to see what she’s read on the big screen. However the Team Edward girl noted some concern over the fact that the movie would be more focused on Jacob.
“I know it sounds cheesy but Edward Cullen is so dreamy” Ward said. “He’s like the perfect guy.”
At the Rave Edward and Jacob fans all seemed excited about the movie. An employee of the Rave said movie-goers started lining up at 10 p.m. for the 12 a.m. show.
After the show crowds piling out of the theater couldn’t stop talking about the ending. “I can’t believe that ending” and “I can’t believe I’m going to have to wait another year to see the rest” were heard amongst shrieks of excitement and giddy laughter from teenage girls who have fallen in love with the vampire series and its male leads.
“I was so excited to see what the differences would be from the book” Ward said. “I think the actors in the movie did the parts a lot of justice.”

Fans of 15-year-old singing sensation Justin Bieber might typically run a bit younger than most chart-toppers — but as the "One Time" singer learned Friday that apparently doesn't make them any less dangerous.
A young girl was hospitalized this afternoon after fans mistakenly started a stampede at the Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island New York.
Moments after the incident Bieber updated his fans with a message on his Twitter account. Alluding to a difficult day for himself his fans and security team he tweeted "The event at roosevelt mall is cancelled. please go home. the police have already arrested one person from my camp. I dont want anyone hurt."
According to TMZ which spoke with employees at an Abercrombie Kids store near the melee someone in the mall falsely screamed that Bieber was inside their store causing a flood of young kids rushing towards his mistaken location. In addition to the young girl's hospitalization several fights allegedly occurred.
In addition Newsday reported that by 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon the crowds had grown so big and unwieldy that Nassau County police were called in. The crowds had gathered for a performance at the tween clothing store Justice where Bieber was scheduled to perform songs from his eight-song CD My World which just came out on Tuesday.
After many fans had waited in line for a day or more Bieber (who recently co-starred with Diddy in the YouTube clip "Justin Bieber's 48 Hours with Diddy") learned that many of them hadn't left the mall even after the incident with the injured girl. As the Nassau County police attempted to get the crowd to disperse Bieber used Twitter to ask his followers to leave.
"[The girls] are inside crying" fan Alexandra Levine of Great Neck told Newsday. "They don't want to come out because they think he will still show up."

Black Friday Ad for Wal-Mart Gets Confirmed
The Wal-Mart black Friday ad was put into circulation through unauthorized sources. The Wal-mart team sicked their lawyers on the offender and the ads were removed. Now they are just saying to heck with it and posting it out there for everybody to see.
BlackFriday.Info founder Jon Vincent called Wal-Mart after he was emailed a copy of the upcoming circular. Wal-Mart agreed to let him post the entire circular to their website. They finally realized they could not stop the internet from leaking the ads.
They have confirmed six of their black Friday deals to CNN. Some of the leaked ads contained prices on video games and DVDs. An HDTV has also been included in the confirmed list but do not get too excited each store only has a few in stock for the sale.
Vincent understands their reasoning behind keeping their ad a secret but thinks their ad is one of the best ads so far. Does it matter when the ad gets exposed to the consumer? The consumers will shop wherever the deals are the best on the items they want regardless if whose ad came out first.

If you want to attend tonight's Columbus premiere of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" you better buy a ticket quickly.
Thirteen of the 15 auditoriums at Carmike 15 are sold out for the midnight showing a Carmike Cinemas official said when contacted by the Ledger-Enquirer this afternoon.
The number is a dramatic increase to the numbers we reported yesterday when two of the 15 auditoriums were sold out.
Tickets for the midnight showing are $9.25 for adults and $6.25 for children under 12. Carmike 15 is at 5555 Whittlesey Blvd. Call 706-571-3456.
"New Moon" is the second film installment of the "Twilight" series. The movies are based on a set of vampire books by Stephenie Meyer.

Tito Ortiz has made up with UFC president Dana White and fixed the back problems heâs suffered from since 2003.
Now itâs time to get back to business.
A fired up and serious Ortiz hopped on the scale at his first official UFC weigh-in in over 18 months. He came in at 204 pounds for his main event bout a rematch with Forrest Griffin at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday.
Fans received Ortiz with an even mix of cheers and boos. Ortiz seemed happy to receive both.
âTomorrow night is all about the fansâ Ortiz said. âIâm glad Forrest took this fight but heâs going to come out on the short end. He asked for two more rounds the last time we fought and now heâs going to get them. Iâm very excited thereâs nothing like this.â
Griffin weighed-in a pound heavier at 205 and looked happy to be on-stage as well ready to put a disappointing loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 101 behind him.
When the two fighters met the first time in 2006 Griffin was basically just beginning his UFC career while Ortiz was one of the sportâs bigger stars.
At Fridayâs weigh-in Griffin eluded to the idea that Ortizâs time as an elite light heavyweight may be over.
âItâs obviously great to be hereâ Griffin said. âIâm looking forward to fighting the âformer man.ââ
Welterweight Anthony Johnson gave a smile when he came in at perfect 170 pounds following his last fight where he failed to make weight.
His opponent Josh Koscheck weighed-in at 171.
In other big news White announced during a Q&A session with fans that he believes Quinton âRampageâ Jackson will be back in the UFC following his filming of the new âA-Teamâ movie and says that the much anticipated fight between he and Rashad Evans is still likely.
âRashad has a fight with Thiago Silva in Januaryâ White said. âIf Rashad is able to get out that with a win heâll fight Rampage next.â

Just ask 20-year-old Casey Byrd who took a vacation day from her job at a Lenny's Sub Shop in Marion Ark. to drive to the Malco Paradiso in East Memphis so she could be first fan in line Thursday for a midnight showing of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" in which Pattinson plays a sexy vampire named Edward whose love for Bella (Kristen Stewart) a young mortal is challenged by rival supernatural stud Jacob (Taylor Lautner) a werewolf.
Actually there was no line for Byrd to be first in when she arrived at the theater at 10 a.m. After the Paradiso opened for business she loitered in the lobby subsisting on concession stand pizza until other "Twi"-fanatics joined her including friend Brittany Butler 20.
The women wore homemade T-shirts and hoodies adorned with such "Twilight"-inspired slogans as "And So the Lion Fell in Love with the Lamb ..." (an Edward reference) and "He Is My Sexy Beast!" (Jacob).
"I wanted to be the first" Byrd said. "I was the first last year" she added referring to "Twilight" the first film in the series which made its debut a year ago this weekend.
"New Moon" is the sequel to "Twilight" which grossed $191 million at the U.S. box office and $380 million worldwide. The films are adapted from a series of best-selling romantic-supernatural novels by Stephenie Meyer that have turned millions of readers most of them women into Twi-addicts.
"New Moon" was set to debut at 12:01 a.m. today on 3500 screens around the country including 27 in the Memphis area. All local shows were sell-outs; at the Paradiso some 2400 fans jammed the 10 screens showing "New Moon."
"Big city or small it doesn't matter that's how deep the phenomenon is" said Malco film booker Jeff Kaufman who said the "New Moon" midnight shows all sold out.
The fans at the Paradiso were mostly women ranging in age from pre-teenagers to fortysomethings and older. Many wore flashing "Bite Me!" buttons and other bits of Hot Topic "Twilight" apparel; many also wore homemade outfits that proclaimed their allegiance to "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob."
Some fans couldn't make up their minds. Nineteen-year-old Lizzie Gonzalez' shirt stated: "Heart Divided."
Although most fans said they were attracted by the romantic aspects of the books and films Erin Bowden 40 said the series proved therapeutic as well as escapist after the sudden death of her husband Andrew 36 from "a massive heart attack" last year.
"That whole thing of a love that will never die I could really understand it" said Bowden.
Most "Twilight" fans plan to be back for next summer's opening of the third film in the series "Eclipse."
Peterson Wellford 18 an MUS student who was one of the few men in attendance called to his friends: "I'll see you in June."

I love this job. I’ve written things that should never ever leave a human mouth and this would be Exhibit A in that. Backstage at Jimmy Kimmel’s show 50 Cent’s crew mistook Marv Albert for someone important and apparently tried to beat him down.
Marv Albert for those of you who are unaware could kick your ass. He’s the voice of the NBA probably dresses in bondage gear and bites people which means not only does he spend all day mingling with people that could kick your ass in his off-time he keeps his pimp hand strong. Name someone more hardcore than that. Anyway they were both booked on the same day on Jimmy Kimmel and the record industry apparently adequately prepped 50’s crew for dealing with short booming-voiced white dudes. So according to MTV …
When the broadcaster entered the building what went down? Punches were thrown obscenities were spat out and things got quite hostile.
Jesus christ. I have no idea what the hell Marv Albert could’ve done to provoke 50’s crew but I would’ve paid money to see that. He must’ve rolled up bumping The Game throwing Euros at them and grabbing his crotch.
The story has a sad note though. In retaliation Jay-Z has killed Bob Costas.

Death of Drew Brees' mother ruled a suicide

GRANBY Colo. — The death of the mother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been ruled a suicide.
Mina Brees an attorney from Austin Texas died Aug. 7 while visiting Colorado. Grand County coroner Brenda Bock concluded this week that the 59-year-old Brees died of a prescription drug overdose and ruled the death a suicide.
Bock said Brees died while staying at the home of a friend in Granby near Rocky Mountain National Park.
It took longer than three months for autopsy results to be released but Bock said that's typical for cases involving toxicology tests.
The Austin American Statesman reported that three days before Brees died the Texas attorney general's office subpoenaed her business records.
She had allegedly sent letters to some restaurants in Austin and Houston stating that they had lost their rights to use their names to a company she represented Chicksports but they could win the rights back by paying up to $25000. She was also the president of Chicksports but that wasn't mentioned in the letter.
Relations between Drew Brees and his mother were strained at times and the quarterback asked her to stop using his picture in TV commercials touting her candidacy for a Texas appeals court seat in 2006.
Mina Brees said she had not anticipated upsetting her son and sent out replacement commercials omitting mention of him.
At the time Drew Brees called his relationship with his mother "nonexistent" saying it crumbled six years earlier when he refused to hire her as his agent.
Austin attorney Marty Akins the brother of Minda Brees declined comment late Friday.

Delta customer service helped passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta on Thursday.
A computer glitch that caused flight cancellations and delays across the U.S. Thursday has been resolved the Federal Aviation Administration said but it was unclear how long flights would be affected.
Many of the nation's airports weren't encountering departure delays as of early afternoon according to the FAA's air-traffic command center. But major delays were reported in Washington New York Philadelphia and Chicago.
The problem involved FAA computer systems in Salt Lake City and Atlanta that handle automated flight plans forcing air-traffic controllers to revert to the much more time-consuming approach of entering flight plans by hand.
That produced a "domino effect" delaying flights around the country the National Air Traffic Controllers Association said. Spokesman Doug Church said controllers were entering flight plans manually in some locations even after the glitch was fixed.

The FAA system is a major cutting-edge program full of redundancies that are designed to keep it from going down. As such the problem is quite different from localized radio communication or computer problems the FAA suffers from time to time.
The FAA said the problem started between 5:15 and 5:30 a.m. and affected mostly flight plans but also traffic management such as ground stops and ground delays.
Flight delays began on the East Coast and rippled out to the west. The problem didn't affect radar coverage or communications with planes in the air the FAA said. The air-traffic controllers union however said the FAA systems that provide information on weather and wind speeds at airports weren't functioning.
As of mid-morning the delays appeared wane. FlightStats.com which captures FAA flight data indicated that departures from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were delayed by 20 to 60 minutes. But departures scheduled for later in the day were generally showing to be on time.
"The airport is working to minimize the impact on customers by bringing in additional staff and ensuring that all facilities are operational and fully maintained" a statement from Hartsfield-Jackson officials said.
Departures from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York were indicated running at more than an hour behind schedule for a handful of flights according to FlightStats.com.
At Washington's Dulles International Airport flights destined for New York's LaGuardia Airport and averaged delays of one hour and 20 minutes. Traffic bound for Philadelphia International Airport from Dulles was running more than two hours behind. The FAA said gate hold and taxi delays at Dulles were averaging more than one and a half hours and were lengthening.
US Airways Group Inc. said the FAA's problems created a systemwide slowdown for its planes with some being delayed up to 30 minutes. The airline said it brought additional staffers to its operations center in Pittsburgh to cope with the slower manual processing of flight information.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc. the largest U.S. airline by traffic said it was experiencing some delays but continued to dispatch flights and was assessing a situation that remained fluid.
American Airlines unit of AMR Corp. and the second-largest U.S. airline by traffic behind Delta said the process of entering plans manually is working better spokesman Tim Smith said. "It's going much more smoothly now so the system is flowing" Mr. Smith said. "It took a little while to get them up to speed."
American had yet to cancel any flights and was seeing delays of 10 to 20 minutes though some stretched to an hour Mr. Smith said. "We've had worse days driven by weather" he said. "This is perhaps broader but not as extreme."
An AirTran spokesman said as of 8 a.m. EST Thursday the airline had canceled 22 flight across the U.S. He said the cancellations were mainly at their Atlanta hub but flights were affected nationwide.
Passengers are being asked to check the status of their flights online before going to airports.

The crime scores were determined by geographic and demographic analysis of crime in that city over the past seven years. School performance was based upon state reading and math scores.
Based upon the above criteria Tinley Park Ill. a Chicago suburb was named as the best place to raise your kid overall. Last year the overall winner was also in Illinois--Mount Prospect. Some towns were repeat winners including Warner Robins a military town in Georgia and Rock Hill S.C. a suburb of Charlotte. But the bulk of the best places to live and raise a family list are new this year.

The French are in and the Irish are out.
That is the plain and simple fact of the matter.
But did France in the person of Thierry Henry cheat its way into the World Cup in South Africa next year? That's a question that will be debated long and loud in the wake of Henry's apparent deliberate handling of the ball before William Gallas' goal secured the French their ticket to the tournament at Ireland's expense.
This is what the goal looked like. I have viewed it a half-dozen times or more and still cannot make up my mind. Did Henry touch the ball or was his hand merely in its vicinity? If he did handle it the goal should have been nullified by Swedish referee Martin Hansson (kind of an ironic name incidentally--Hands On).
The Irish fans in Paris chanted "cheat cheat" at Henry. The goal will stand. There is no appeal process. If FIFA has any doubts about the call or non-call it will be reflected in Hansson's not being called up to officiate at the World Cup. That will not placate the Irish but there isn't much else to be done.
[UPDATED 10:33 a.m.: FIFA announced today it is looking into Ireland's formal request for a replay.]
Diego Maradona got away with it in 1986 in much more blatant circumstances. Henry if he did cheat did it much more quickly and subtly than the Argentine.

VIDEO! Here again is youtube video of the double handball during the France vs. Ireland FIFA World Cup qualifying soccer game. The France Handball by Thierry Henry and missed by Referee Martin Hansson has prompted Ireland to speak out Thursday
Some Ireland reps have told FIFA they are demanding a replay of the playoff game. Moreover Ireland says not only is there a handball but two French players offsides on a free kick.
Irish Justice Minister Dermont Ahern issued a statement today to AP that three was a 1) double handball and 2) double offsides.
“If that result remains it reinforces the view that if you cheat you will win. Millions of people worldwide saw it was a blatant double handball not to mention a double offside. We should put the powers that be in the cozy world of FIFA on the spot and demand a replay.”

Debbe Magnusen was convinced she was going to die. She weighed 360 pounds and she was having trouble breathing.
The medication she was taking for a damaged heart valve had slowed her metabolism to a snail's pace. She needed gastric bypass surgery to get rid of the fat shrink her stomach and save her life.
Only one problem: Debbe was terrified she would die in surgery.
It was a Catch 22 she thought. Surgery or no surgery I'm going to die.
But she couldn't die. There were still babies to save.
Then a light bulb went off.
Debbe called a TV producer she knew and told him she wanted to have gastric surgery and let a camera crew follow her into the operating room. "I figured if I had a camera crew with me they're not gonna kill me" she said.
As a backup she had "I (heart) Dr. Leport" painted on her toenail so the surgeon could see it while he carved away in hopes that he would be more careful.
It apparently worked. Debbe lived. Her surgery wound up on a TV show on the Lifetime network. And she is now 180 pounds thinner and breathing easy.
I tell you that story because it is vintage Debbe.
What sort of person comes up with a plan to bring a TV camera crew into the operating room with them for protection?
Someone who thinks way outside the box that's who.
Someone who sees a newspaper article about a baby found dead in a file cabinet in Yorba Linda Calif. and instead of just shaking her head in sorrow or ranting about the sick mother starts a hotline to save future babies from such a fate.
Someone who then goes on TV to invite pregnant women who are desperate or in trouble to drop their newborn off in a whicker laundry basket on her Costa Mesa Calif. porch ring the doorbell and run away. No questions asked.
Debbe tells me she has a survivor mentality.
And because of that 661 babies have survived.

It was a TV movie waiting to happen. And now there will be one.
Debbe flew recently to Manhattan to meet with the woman writing the script. She can't give out details yet on when it will air or what channel it will be on or what actress will play her. But actor John Stamos otherwise known as Uncle Jesse on the TV sitcom Full House is producing it.
Besides picking Debbe's brain the writer has interviewed many of the people who are part of Debbe's journey. That includes the countless couples that have adopted babies Debbe saved since starting the Project Cuddle hotline in 1996.

Today on the Rachael Ray Show the upcoming diet book 400 Calorie Fix was debuted. One woman claimed to have lost 6 pounds in 2 days using the plan in this new book. The 400 Calorie Fix diet has been causing quite a stir. The details have been mostly kept under wraps until now but everyone loves a rapid weight loss plan so the buzz has been huge.
Written by Prevention's Editor-in-Chief Liz Vaccariello the author of NY Times Best Seller Flat Belly Diet! the 400 Calorie Fix seems to focus mainly on calorie counting and portion control - nothing new to the diet world. The main premise is that you can eat anything anywhere…as long as you eat 4 meals every day consisting of 380-400 calories. It seems too simple to be true.
The book includes 400 recipes but it also promotes eating fast food by allowing foods such as a McDonald's ice cream cone to add up to your 400 calories. While it's true that your meal remains at around 400 calories by counting the calories and portion size you would also be increasing your sugar sodium and fat intake by often eating at fast food restaurants. Another potentially dangerous downfall to this diet is that everyone's caloric requirements vary based on their height weight age and activity level. Eating only 1600 calories may not be enough to fuel some people while for others it may be low enough that even a daily walk would be sufficient exercise to still lose weight.
The upside to this diet is that it teaches you simple tricks such as sneaky words often hidden in the ingredient list that can raise the calorie count. They recommend cutting out breads and show you how to "eyeball" correct portion sizes. These things are essential in any healthy eating plan.
The theory behind weight loss is simple: burn more calories than you eat and the weight will come off. This book seems to follow that theory because 1600 calories a day isn't a lot for most people and small bursts of exercise will burn off those calories quickly. But will 400 Calorie Fix be the miracle weight loss plan the world has been waiting for?
The book is available January 4 2010 but can be pre-ordered now. It includes a 2-week slim plan over 400 recipes with a nutrition-rating system and special menus for low-carb low-sodium and high-fibre diets.

NEW YORK (CBS) Elizabeth Lambert became an Internet celebrity for all the wrong reasons this fall. Now the suspended New Mexico soccer player who was caught attacking opposing players on tape has met with the New York Times to put the aggressive infractions into context.
Saying that her actions were "indefensible" in her first interview since the incidents occurred Lambert 20 told the Times that she still "deeply regrets it and will always regret it and will carry it through the rest of my life not to retaliate."
The junior defender is seen in video from the game throwing elbows colliding with several players and then yanking the ponytail of a BYU player who went crashing to the ground.
Lambert's actions brought unprecedented and very unwanted attention to the Mountain West women's soccer tournament this fall. New Mexico lost to BYU 1-0.
Video highlights have been airing nationally.
Lambert said that she has watched the YouTube clip several times and "does not recognize herself" acting the way she did.

Still Lambert makes no apologies for much of the aggressive play that viewers took note of saying that forceful movement is routine in the sport and that some of her actions "were misinterpreted or taken out of context on a condensed video" according to the Times.
"I definitely feel because I am a female it did bring about a lot more attention than if a male were to do it" Lambert said to the paper. "Its more expected for men to go out there and be rough. The female were still looked at as oh we kick the ball around and score a goal. But its not. We train very hard to reach the highest level we can get to. The physical aspect has maybe increased over the years. Im not saying its for the bad or its been too overly aggressive. Its a game. Sports are physical."
New Mexico moved quickly to announce that Lambert has been suspended indefinitely. The Mountain West followed with a statement commending the New Mexico Lobos for acting promptly.
"Liz is a quality student-athlete but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship" New Mexico coach Kit Vela said.
Lambert was the only player to be penalized in the game getting a yellow card in the 77th minute for colliding with a BYU player who was driving toward the net.
The highlights showed the game was physical in both directions including an elbow to Lambert's ribs by a BYU player during a dead ball. Lambert responded with an elbow to the back.
"I think the way the video came out it did make me look like a monster. Thats not the type of player I am. Im not just out there trying to hurt players. Thats taking away from the beauty of the game. And I would never want to do that" Lambert said to the Times.

Troubled ex-NBA star Jayson Williams is heading to jail.
The former St. John's center who played with the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets reportedly accepted a plea deal that could come with a three-year sentence.
The agreement would resolve a case that began in February 2002 when Williams - after a night of drinking - fatally blasted limousine driver Costas (Gus) Christofi inside the hoopster's New Jersey mansion.
Witnesses testified that Williams attempted to cover up the crime by placing the weapon in the dead man's hands and asking them to lie about the killing.
Williams has insisted the shooting was an accident.
The Associated Press reported Williams will plead guilty Friday to aggravated assault and must serve a minimum of 18 months in prison. The maximum term would be three years.
Williams 41 was scheduled to begin a retrial on reckless manslaughter charges in January. His previous trial in 2004 ended with a jury acquitting Williams of the most serious charge aggravated manslaughter.
The panel convicted him of cover-up charges but failed to reach a decision on reckless manslaughter.
The deal that would land Williams behind bars is the latest blow to the gregarious New Yorker.
His father Elijah Joshua "E.J." Williams died Nov. 10 and was just buried last Saturday in South Carolina.
In September Williams wept in a Manhattan courtroom and insisted he was flat broke. His wife - who is divorcing him - was seeking $200000 in back maintenance and child support.
Williams earned $87 million playing for the Nets.

Postal Grinch Stops North Pole From Answering Kids' Letters

It's going to be a tough year for parents who will have to explain why neither Santa nor his helpers are going to reply to letters this year.

The little town of North Pole Alaska where the thousands of volunteers answer letters addressed to Santa in the North Pole every year will likely have to shut down their program after the U.S. Postal Service enacted stricter regulations on the national program when a sex offender was discovered among the volunteers in Maryland last year.
Now Operation Santa volunteers are not allowed access to children's family names and addresses which have been replaced with codes that match computerized addresses known only to the post office - leaving it up to individiual post offices to decide if they want to go through with the new time-consuming effort of addressing the response letters. And that's an effort that is likely not feasible in Alaska according to Anchorage-based agency spokeswoman Pamela Moody.
People in North Pole where light posts are oversized candy-canes and streets have names like Kris Kringle Drive and Santa Clause Lane are angry about the change comparing the Postal Service to the Grinch who stole Christmas.
North Pole Mayor Doug Isaacson agreed caution is necessary to protect children but was upset that the longstanding tradition would be ended by a sex offender on the East Coast and that the North Pole volunteers weren't alerted earlier.
"It's Grinchlike that the Postal Service never informed all the little elves before the fact" he said. "They've been working on this for how long?"
While the Operation Santa program will continue in other places with post offices that can deal with the changes the program that forwarded letters generically addressed to "Santa Claus North Pole" to the small town will be discontinued unless the town can achieve the feat of making the changes before Christmas.

FAA.gov on its today's flight delays information page shows that the computer problem is fixed. However there is huge backlog of flights due to the earlier computer problems that caused Air Train to cancel 22 flights and create number of delays nationwide.
It was mainly Atlanta and Houston airports effected. The outage had caused the air traffic controller to manage flights manually. However FAA said air traffic controllers had radio contact with the pilots.
"FAA spokesman Paul Takemoto said the system went out at 5:06 a.m. ET and came back on about five hours later. He said officials working to pinpoint the cause know that there was a problem with the main telecommunications systems" reports CNN.
FAA says this was not really a safety problem. Rather the computer problem was an efficiency problem. However in our humble opinion every little details with flights has to do with safety since so much is put on the table.
NY Times reminds that the same system had failed once in 2008. However it's not known if the cause was the same this year. "The system the National Airspace Data Interchange Network situated in Atlanta with a backup in Salt Lake City was a casualty of another failure in the tightly linked one official at the Federal Aviation Administration said. Technicians were still trying to determine the cause of the glitch" reports the newspaper.
Now the passengers are faced with flight delays in many airports. The imperative for the FAA is quickly to find the cause so we can prevent it next time.

Wisconsin's largest personal injury law firm pioneered lawyer advertising in the state back in the early 1980s but it appears it may have been asleep at the keyboard when its biggest competitor turned to Google Yahoo and Bing.
Someone looking for a personal injury lawyer in the Milwaukee area might easily type the names Habush and Rottier into an Internet search engine.
Habush Habush & Rottier one of the state's oldest and largest law firms specializing in personal injury cases has had many publicized successes and advertises a lot.
But the first result most major search engines return is for a Habush competitor - Cannon & Dunphy.
On Wednesday Robert Habush Daniel Rottier and their law firm sued William Cannon Patrick Dunphy and their Brookfield law firm asking that a court halt the defendants' use of paid-for keywords Habush and Rottier to direct searchers to the Cannon & Dunphy Web site.
It appears to be a first-of-its kind claim in the increasingly competitive and sophisticated world of search engine advertising.
Several companies have sued Google over letting competitors buy keywords associated with the objecting company but those actions are usually brought under trademark laws.
But Habush and Rottier contend that Cannon & Dunphy is violating Wisconsin's right to privacy law by using the names of Habush and Rottier for advertising purposes without their permission.
The lawsuit seeks injunctions and attorney fees but no damages. Habush and Rottier are represented by Jim Clark of the Foley & Lardner law firm.
Dunphy said that he thought a marketing firm had made arrangements with search engines and that he never requested Habush and Rottier as keywords to bring up his firm.
"I don't see what the problem is" he said. "If you Google Habush their firm comes up. If you Google my firm we come up - and so do other firms. I'm not suing anybody."
Dunphy also said he was surprised Habush didn't call about his concerns before filing a lawsuit which Dunphy said he believes is without merit and will seek to have dismissed.
Eric Goldman a professor at Santa Clara University School of Law in California's Silicon Valley follows lawyer advertising and technology.
He was aware of only one other lawsuit in which one law firm was suing over another's use of its name as paid search keywords but in that case the aggrieved lawyers sued Google not the other law firm and claimed unfair trade practices.
"Many of us kind of laughed at it" Goldman said. "A lawyer just woke up to keyword advertising?"
He said the practice began about a decade ago but gained in popularity around 2004. He said the cost of the keyword "mesothelioma" actually grew to $100 a click because so many plaintiffs' lawyers were using it to find clients suffering from the disease a lung cancer caused by asbestos.
Habush and Rottier don't say just how and when they realized their names were bringing up a Canon & Dunphy sponsored result. They declined to comment on the lawsuit.
The complaint filed Wednesday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court lists the history and many legal professional and philanthropic accomplishments of Habush Rottier and their law firm which has more than 40 lawyers in offices around the state.
"Defendants' obtaining and using the keywords 'Habush' and 'Rottier' is an intentional and illegal effort to trade on the hard-earned names personal reputations and good will" of the plaintiffs the suit contends.
Further the suit contends the search results confuse and mislead legal consumers "leaving the impression" the plaintiffs "are endorsing the defendants and the self-aggrandizing statements included in their solicitations."
Like the Habush firm Cannon & Dunphy cites many of its large awards in cases and credentials of its nine lawyers such as inclusion among America's Best Lawyers.
Goldman the law professor noted that the Cannon law firm is not actually using its competitors' names in its ads or on its Web site but is getting its firm mentioned only in the same search results with the Habush firm. He did not think a court would necessarily agree therefore that Cannon was using the other names "for advertising purposes."
But he said he expects lawyers' use of keyword and other kinds of Internet advertising to evolve and increase.
"All that Yellow Pages advertising is headed to the Internet" he said. "And the disputes will follow."
The American Board of Trial Advocates a group of about 6500 plaintiff and defense lawyers recently adopted a new set of advertising standards that prohibit practices that are deceitful misleading or create false expectations.
The chairman of the group's advertising committee said the keyword dispute in the Habush case was never explicitly addressed but probably will be at the committee's next meeting.
"It is pushing the envelope and we're barely catching up as far as the legal profession" in Internet advertising said board member Russell Blank of Atlanta.

Today is the 146th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's delivery of one of the most sublime and enduring political statements in history: The Gettysburg Address. The 16th President stood and spoke simply and directly in just a few short minutes framing the meaning of the horrible but decisive Civil War battle at Gettysburg. In his words he explains to his war weary nation and the world the meaning of the terrible and bloody conflict.
For Lincoln the War marked history's greatest test determining whether a nation born and borne on the principles of self-government could endure not only external foes - as she had in the Revolution - but dividing internal strife. For Lincoln America was a God-founded nation "Under God" he calls her. Preserving her unity was for him a calling from God himself. To be so placed - Under God - is to recognize that all our valued rights and the laws that protect them have a higher source and a spiritual accountability. America Lincoln believed and proclaimed was a society governed by laws not men and those laws derived their power from God and his moral stipulations.
Lincoln in this sense is speaking this great address not only to Americans past and future but also as a kind of prayer a declaration to God that we do not take his gift of trust lightly and that we will resolve to not let God's great American experiment fall to dust!

LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles International Airport is warning passengers that there may be significant delays in flights because of an FAA computer glitch.
LAX officials say there are no problems Thursday morning but there could be beginning about noon as planes heading to Los Angeles are delayed and those heading out are kept back.
It's unclear how long problems may last but passengers are being urged to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The problem stems from a Federal Aviation Administration computer problem in Utah. The problem was fixed after five hours but there has been a domino effect from backups around the country.Advertisement

The yuletide season is almost round the corner and people are already in a festive mood. The cold is setting in thanksgiving is closing in and itâs not too late for Santa to arrive too. People go on holidays at this time of the year some prefer shopping and others prefer eating.
Speaking of eating we can say that itâs absolutely important to treat your tongue with variety of delicacies once in a while. The food we eat in this time of the year must be different from the boring everyday food we had.These days more and more people go out exploring restaurants and thatâs a pretty nice thing to do. Now we can provide you with the name of a Restaurant in Chicago that can surely give your tongue some twist from the everyday food. And no! They havenât paid us to advertise them. We are just embracing the food joint by our own free will.
The name is Heaven on Seven and middle class restaurant in 111 N. Wabash – 7th FloorChicago IL 60602. The entrance is in an office building on the 7th floor. The space is pretty decent; a board says âno credit cards or checks only cash!âÂ there are loads of customers sitting there and eating.
99 percent of the food came with their “famous” gumbo or a side salad. And it seems they have a fetish for sauce. There were sauces everywhere from the floors to the ceilings to the falls to the tables; we mean it âeverywhere!â Itâs like they had this Guinness award for largest amount of sauce bottles and brands collected under one roof.
The food there is pretty awesome and we tried a dish called jambalaya and it was this saucy mixture of rice prawns and sausages. Food tasted nice and the generous quantity even made it taste far better. The place has a nice old school warm ambience which feels quite pleasant.Enough saidâ¦go and have your food there now!

If Trent Edwards' future as the Buffalo Bills' long-term option at quarterback wasn't over
before it might be now.
The Bills lifted second-year quarterback Brian Brohm off the Green Bay Packers' practice
squad and signed him to a two-year contract. To make room for Brohm the Bills released
third-string quarterback Gibran Hamdan.
Brohm is the second player the Bills have taken off the Packers practice squad. The first
was rookie tackle Jamon Meredith early in the season.
The Packers offered Brohm a 2008 second-round draft pick out of Louisville the same
two-year deal the Bills put on the table. But with Aaron Rodgers firmly established as the
quarterback in Green Bay Brohm opted to join the Bills because their quarterback situation
gives him a better opportunity to play.
Signing a young QB prospect like Brohm is yet another signal that the Bills are prepared to
move forward without Edwards who has experienced a dramatic fall from grace.
Just-fired head coach Dick Jauron benched Edwards after he threw three straight bad passes
the last one was intercepted and returned for a touchdown in the final minutes of last
Sunday's 41-17 road loss to the Tennessee Titans. Interim head man Perry Fewell announced
Wednesday that Ryan Fitzpatrick would start at Jacksonville on Sunday.
Whether Brohm gets on the field for the Bills this season remains to be seen. But he
shouldn't have trouble picking up the offense. He is a smart guy who scored 32 out of 50 on
the Wonderlic test tying Matt Ryan for the highest score among quarterbacks at the 2008 NFL
scouting combine.
The 6-foot-3 228-pound Brohm doesn't have a big arm but accuracy (65.8 career completion
percentage) pocket presence and decision making were his biggest strengths coming out of
college. He also comes from a football family. His father Oscar and brothers Greg and Jeff
also played at Louisville. Jeff Brohm played quarterback for six teams in his seven-year NFL
career. He spent the first of three years as Louisville's offensive coordinator during Brian's
senior season.
Brian Brohm threw for 10775 touchdowns 71 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in 44 games and
was 24-9 as a starter at Louisville (his hometown school) where he played with Bills center
Eric Wood.
Some NFL draft analysts thought Brohm would have been a high pick if not first overall in
the 2007 draft had he left Louisville after his junior year. Despite putting up big numbers as
a senior (4034 yards 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions) Brohm was the third quarterback
taken in the 2008 draft behind Ryan (third overall by the Atlanta Falcons) and Joe Flacco
(18th by the Baltimore Ravens).
The Packers made Brohm the 56th selection. The Miami Dolphins chose quarterback Chad Henne
one pick later.
Brian Brohm college highlights
It is believed the Packers took Brohm as insurance behind Rodgers who replaced Green Bay
icon Brett Favre last season. But Rodgers was an immediate success making it less likely
Brohm would ever see the field for the Packers.
Brohm wasn't very impressive during his time in Green Bay. He was beaten out for the No. 2
quarterback spot by seventh-round pick Matt Flynn and spent his rookie year as the third QB
for all 16 games. Brohm's struggles continued in training camp and the preseason this year and
was one of the Packers' final cuts. He was signed to the practice squad a few days later.
It is uncertain where Brohm fits in the Bills' long-range plans because they don't know who
their next head coach is going to be. But as a young passer with potential he would be an
intriguing option for the new coach.

As leaves changed colors and fall began first graders at RVH learned about autumn and Halloween.
All first grade classes recently completed a Halloween unit where they made monsters and pumpkin ice cream and studied night creatures including owls and bats.
Instructors Cindy Bradshaw Leah Gottlob Karen Kukovich and Beth Towner also took their students to Hickory Creek Farms to study pumpkins.
The children are now working on a variety of Thanksgiving activities.
In addition to seasonal activities first graders have been enhancing their math skills by using pennies and dimes to count money amounts and learning to tell time to the nearest hour.
In reading and phonics they learned to decode words with the sounds “ar” “er” “ir” “or” and “ur.”
Speech pathologist Sherry Boultinghouse gave her speech education students Thanksgiving worksheets where they listed things they were thankful for and added them to their speech books.
Mrs. Boultinghouse said “All of my students are continuing to work toward achieving their goals and objectives.”
The Early Childhood program has also been teeming with holiday spirit. Instructor Sherry Jagels is using turkeys to reinforce the preschoolers’ math skills rhyming skills language skills and social skills.
Her children are preparing for their Thanksgiving celebration feast on Tuesday Nov. 24.
Principal Tom Stegman said “I appreciate the hard work of the staff with our students here at RVH. It’s amazing to see how much effort they are willing to put into the kids.”
He added that his first year as principal has been “great so far.”
On Monday Nov. 23 third graders will have their Harvest Festival from 12-3 p.m. Volunteers from the community will show them Native American and early settler customs.
The fourth grade music program will be held Monday Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Shireman Performing Arts Center.

Nov. 19: Flight cancellations and delays due to an FAA computer glitch displayed near the AirTran terminal at the Atlanta international airport.
An FAA computer malfunction involving access to flight plans caused nationwide flight cancellations and delays Thursday.
The glitch was fixed by mid-morning but travelers continued to feel the effects and scrambled to make other arrangements.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the computer system was up and running again by about 10 a.m. EST. But flights across the United States were being affected at least through the day and possibly longer.

The problem lasted about five hours according to the FAA but it was unclear how long flights would be impacted.
The FAA's automated systems couldn't retrieve flight plans and in some cases they had to be entered by hand spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.
Bergen said she didn't know how many flights were affected but the cause was being investigated. The technical difficulties didn't have an impact on air traffic control's contact with aircraft she said.
Controllers had "radio coverage and communications with planes" while the computer program was down according to Bergen.
Doug Church a spokesman for the National Air Traffic Controllers Union said controllers were still entering flight plans manually in some locations even after the glitch was fixed.
Aviation officials told The Associated Press that the problem began at the computer center in Salt Lake City. The officials asked not to be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
FAA spokesman Paul Takemoto said the malfunction started between 5:15 and 5:30 a.m.
Airplane dispatchers had to send plans to controllers who entered them by hand.
"It's slowing everything down" Takemoto said.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport the world's busiest was particularly affected. The problem also exacerbated delays caused by bad weather in the Northeast with airports in the Chicago Washington D.C. and New York metro areas reporting problems.
Some flights were more than two hours behind schedule. Airports around the South also reported delays and cancel source of the computer software malfunction was a "packet switch" that "failed due to a database mismatch."
AirTran Airways and Delta Air Lines are among those with widespread delays and cancellations.
Passengers should continue to check the status of their flights online before going to airports officials said.
