In political presentation much like what occurs in a courtroom presentation boundaries of what material is deemed reasonable and acceptable are drawn.
When these boundaries are moved on a political spectrum they are referred to as the Overton Window named after its originator Joe Overton former vice president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
The concept stands for the notion that only a portion of the policy spectrum is perceived as politically possible at any given time.
